A federal grand jury investigating the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the Capitol heard testimony from Marc Short, the former chief of staff to former Vice President Mike Pence. So far, Short is the highest-ranking official from the Trump administration to testify. Short was more than a fly on the wall during his almost two years working with Pence. He answered questions in front of the grand jury, after being served a subpoena. Another top official who served as Short’s counsel during his tenure at the Trump White House, Greg Jacob, also testified before the grand jury.
Although it is unknown what they told the grand jury, Short was a key witness to the final days of the Trump administration, and was present in the Oval Office meeting on January 4, 2021 when Trump’s lawyer, John Eastman, tried to get Pence to delay and even stop the certification of the Electoral College vote in the hope of overturning the 2020 presidential election.
