Americans are going back to their doctors’ offices and getting more medical care, after putting off routine health care due to the pandemic. This trend is starting to affect health insurance premium rates, which are going up.
Insurance companies in 13 state marketplaces, as well as in Washington DC, will raise rates an average of 10% next year, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
Congress is debating how to help consumers via The American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion economic aid package Congress passed last year to assist Americans with the economic impacts of the pandemic. The Plan includes funding to lower premiums for people who purchase insurance plans in state marketplaces.
