As any social media user knows, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, 36, had photos and videos of herself partying and dancing plastered all over the internet recently. Accusations and insults have been hurled at the prime minister for being young, partying, dancing, and, and at its worst, allegedly being involved in the use of recreational drugs at the wild parties. The Prime Minister took a drug test to clear her name.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, perhaps a glutton for punishment, got into the act and posted a photo of herself on Twitter, dancing at a club in Cartagena, Columbia in 2012, while she was working for the State Department. She wasn’t as young as the Finnish Prime Minister, but you get the point.
Clinton has been blasted online for involving herself in the Finnish scandal.
In the tweet, Clinton dated herself and wrote, “As [former Texas Governor] Ann Richards said, ‘Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels.’ “Here’s me in Cartagena while I was there for a meeting as Secretary of State. Keep dancing, @marinsanna.”
The reference refers to the “good ole days,” in the 1930s, and was in support of Marin, who many people point out has to face a double standard, due to her age and her gender.
Finnish Twitter users basically told Clinton to mind her own business.
Many Finnish citizens feel that the prime minister is behaving inappropriately and should be concentrating on her duties.
One person tweeted, “It is not about dancing, sex or age. It is about decency and what is proper and what is not.”
Others express that the double standard allows men to do just about anything they want, without repercussions.
Clinton was accused of “not having the facts,” and criticized for putting her two cents in.
