A Connecticut man who jumped to his death from Bar 54 at the Hyatt Centric Times Square in New York City on Wednesday, January 25 at 6:30 p.m. was identified as Dale L. Cheney, 46. The New York City Police Department ruled the death a suicide.
Witnesses at the bar confirmed that Cheney jumped.
Cheney, a father of three children, was going through a divorce from his wife, Lauren Cheney. The divorce had been filed two days before he jumped.
About a week before he jumped, on January 16, Cheney was hit with two charges of misdemeanor after a domestic dispute with his wife at their New Canaan, Connecticut home, according to The Wilton Bulletin. His wife received a restraining order against him after the fight and he was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was released on a $25,000 bond after a court appearance in Stamford, Connecticut.
In 2013, Cheney founded an equity firm named T-Street Capital in Darien, Connecticut. He was a board member and an investor in other financial companies. Cheney was previously employed at Citicorp Venture Capital and Goldman Sachs. He graduated from Harvard University with a master’s degree in business administration.
