On August 8, a Seattle Uber driver was fatally shot during a carjacking, resulting in the apprehension of an 18-year-old female suspect on murder charges.
Amare Geda, a 52-year-old father of two, was shot while seated in his Toyota Prius at around 3:30 am, as confirmed by authorities.
The suspect, identified as Ne’iana Allen-Bailey, allegedly approached Geda’s vehicle, shot him, and then fled the scene in the victim’s Toyota.
Law enforcement sources, after finding no discernible link between Allen-Bailey and Geda’s rideshare activities, arrested her three days after the incident. It is reported that the accused used the stolen Prius for over two days, running various errands, making several stops and even having her hair done.
Geda had been known for his industriousness, working two jobs over the past 14 years to support his family. He performed nighttime rideshare duties for both Uber and Lyft and worked at the airport during the day.
The Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association expressed their condolences, highlighting Geda’s unwavering dedication to his family.
In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated to assist with expenses for Geda’s funeral in Ethiopia, and to help the family.
The campaign has garnered significant support, with donations exceeding $68,000.
The organizers of the fundraiser remembered Geda not only as a devoted husband and father but also as a pillar of his family.
The suspect was booked into jail on Friday, August 11, and is being held on a $2 million bond.
