A 56-year-old Japanese tourist lost his life after a bungee jump from the Macau Tower, a globally recognized extreme sports venue. The incident took place on the afternoon of December 3, 2023, after the tourist jumped from an elevation of 764 feet.
The Macau Tower, in southern China’s autonomous region of Macau, towering at 1,100 feet, is a sought-after location for extreme sports enthusiasts. It boasts the world’s highest commercial bungee jump, drawing a significant number of visitors each year. Managed by Skypark by AJ Hackett, the jump experience costs approximately $360.
Following his jump, the tourist encountered difficulty breathing. Emergency personnel quickly transported him to Conde S. Januário Hospital in Macau, where he was pronounced dead. Notably, local media reports indicated no apparent external injuries upon examination.
Skypark mandates that jump participants disclose any existing medical conditions like heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, or past surgeries. These disclosures form part of the comprehensive safety protocols Skypark, a company known for its stringent safety measures, employs. With over four million jumps under its belt, the company maintains a strong commitment to ensuring the safety of its customers and staff.
Apart from its extreme sports facilities, Macau Tower offers additional attractions. These include two observation decks that provide expansive views of the Macau Peninsula, Taipa, and Coloane. The tower also encompasses a variety of restaurants, a cinema, a casino, and a shopping area, contributing to its status as a diverse tourist hub.
