On Saturday, November 25, 2023, 17-year-old Hannah Layton was fatally shot in the head at a home in Richmond, Texas. Richmond Police arrived at the scene in the 2100 block of Crestwood Drive to find Layton’s body.
The suspect, a 16-year-old boy and neighbor of Layton, was arrested and charged with murder. The incident was first indicated by a neighbor’s surveillance audio, capturing a gunshot sound around 7:30 p.m.
Hannah’s mother, Patricia Layton, stated her daughter was shot in the back of the head, dying instantly. She expressed a need for justice and said she was not happy with her daughter’s acquaintances. The suspect, a Richmond local, is detained at the Fort Bend County Juvenile Detention Center. He is not identified at this time because of his age, but could be if he is charged as an adult.
Early investigations reveal Hannah and the suspect were alone at the time of the incident in the suspect’s home. The suspect, who stayed at the scene, claimed to be a friend of Hannah.
Patricia Layton is actively seeking community support and justice for her daughter’s death, using social media and interviews. She started a GoFundMe for funeral costs and mentioned high school students providing new information about the case by sending her messages.
