The reality TV world and the Huntsville, Alabama community are mourning the loss of Keke Jabbar, a beloved star of the popular OWN series “Love & Marriage: Huntsville,” who passed away at 42. Her death was initially confirmed by a family statement read by blogger Marcella Speaks during a YouTube livestream on July 2, 2024.
“It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Keke. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by love. She was a mom, a sister, and a great friend full of life, love, and laughter. She will be sorely missed, and at this time, we are asking for respect and privacy in our moment of grief while we process this great loss,” the statement read.
Keke Jabbar, whose full name was Na’Keisha Dawson-Jabbar, was known for her dynamic personality and her candid presence on the reality show that follows the lives of three African-American couples in Huntsville, Alabama as they navigate their relationships and business ventures in real estate. Despite the show’s dramatic elements, Jabbar’s warmth and love for her family shone through, endearing her to many fans.
The cause of Jabbar’s death was carbon monoxide poisoning, as later revealed by a close family friend, JoAnn Jenkins. Jenkins addressed speculations about her untimely death, stating, “Keke did not overdose; Keke did not take her own life. Keke loved life and wasn’t ready to leave her children or her family.“ Jenkins explained that Jabbar fell asleep in her car after experiencing a vehicle fault and was found unresponsive by her husband in their garage
Jabbar’s cousin and co-star, LaTisha Scott, took to social media to express her grief and request privacy during this difficult time. “This is hard for our Family!!!!! At this time we are asking for RESPECT, and PRIVACY in our moment of grief, while we process this great loss,” Scott wrote on Instagram.
In one of her final social media posts, Jabbar celebrated a significant milestone in her family’s life, sharing photos from her eldest son Amaree’s high school graduation. “My firstborn graduated from high school yesterday, and it was such an emotional experience. I didn’t expect 18 years to go by this fast! We’re so proud of you, Amaree. Go shine like the star you are!!!” she wrote, showcasing her pride and love for her children.
Beyond her television career, Jabbar was also a writer, editor, and professor who often shared her achievements and those of her family on social media. Her involvement in education and her role as a mother were central to her identity, making her passing even more poignant for those who knew her.
Jabbar’s death has left a void in the lives of her family, friends, and fans. Her legacy on “Love & Marriage: Huntsville” and her contributions to her community will be remembered. She is survived by her three children, her husband, and her parents.
