On Wednesday, September 11, ex-President Donald Trump responded to singer Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris by expressing his preference for Brittany Mahomes. Brittany is the spouse of Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.
During an early morning interview on “Fox & Friends” on Fox News, when asked about Swift’s recent endorsement of his political opponent, the 78-year-old Trump said, “I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan.”
The former president further shared his thoughts about Brittany Mahomes, stating, “I like Brittany. I think Brittany’s great. She’s a big, she’s a big MAGA fan. Much better than Taylor Swift.”
Trump’s remarks followed Brittany Mahomes’ recent spotlight in the news for liking an Instagram post by him outlining his “2024 GOP Platform.” The post reportedly included pledges like keeping “men OUT of women’s sports” and reducing federal funding for schools teaching “Critical Race Theory” and “Radical Gender Ideology.”
Swift’s fans reacted strongly to this, resulting in Mahomes addressing the situation on her Instagram Story. She wrote that “haters” must have “deep-rooted issues” and that it’s possible to “disagree with someone, and still love them.” She later withdrew her like from Trump’s post and currently does not follow him on Instagram.
Trump hinted that Swift’s endorsement of Harris could potentially bring about financial repercussions for the singer.
Following the recent debate between Trump and Harris, Swift, 34, declared her support for the vice president on Instagram, stating, “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” She further described Harris as “a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
This isn’t the first time Swift has endorsed Democratic candidates. In 2020, she publicly backed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for president and vice president, respectively. She has also supported other Democratic candidates in past elections.
J.D. Vance, Trump’s running mate, also gave his opinion on Swift’s endorsement, stating that a “billionaire celebrity” like Swift, who is “disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans” wouldn’t influence Americans.
The situation has sparked conversations about a potential rift between Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift, who are known to be friendly through their connections with NFL players and have been spotted together at sporting events. However, recent sightings of the two together suggest their friendship remains unscathed amid the political differences.
Patrick Mahomes, the NFL quarterback, has made it clear he does not intend to endorse a presidential candidate this year, opting to keep his social media platform free from political endorsements.
As celebrities continue to express their political views, the impact of these endorsements on voter behavior continues to be a topic of discussion.
