A shooting broke out at a Houston area flea market on Sunday at 1pm, leaving two people dead and at least three people injured and hospitalized.
It happened in north Harris County on Airline Drive, 12 miles north of downtown Houston, where thousands of customers were out enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon, browsing the flea markets.
No innocent bystanders were hit, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Harris County Sheriff Major, Susan Cotter, reported that some men got into an argument and started shooting. Witnesses said there were multiple shooters and several shots were fired. Two pistols were recovered by police.
Witnesses told reporters that when the fight broke out and shots were heard, children on carnival rides, and people enjoying the outdoors and food, frantically ran for cover.
Two young Hispanic men in their 20’s were found dead at the scene. Three other people were rushed to hospitals in critical condition, one of them a male who is a suspect in the shooting.
Cotter said. “There were two other males detained on the scene and our homicide detectives are interviewing them at this point.”
Another man at the scene, was charged with tampering with criminal evidence. It is believed that other suspects were able to escape before the police came. Investigators are viewing video footage of the scene for clues.
“It’s very scary that this happens in broad daylight,” Cotter said. “We’re just very fortunate that there were no innocent bystanders shot or hit.
“The public is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or CrimeStoppers of Houston with information that will help the investigation.
