A man, employed for nine years at Goldman Sachs’ investment research division in NYC, was shot and killed in an unprovoked attack on Sunday morning.

Daniel Enriquez, 48, was shot in the chest while riding a Manhattan-bound Q train traveling over the Manhattan Bridge, Sunday at about 11:40 AM. He was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

In an interview with the New York Times, the victim’s sister said he had avoided the subway throughout the COVID pandemic, due to fear of contracting the virus.

Just days ago, NYC Mayor Eric Adams encouraged people to return to working in their offices and to use the subway to commute.

In response to the attack, Mayor Adams said, “We’re going to increase the uniform presence, and we’re going to have those officers that one may not know they are police officers, to ensure that we can find those who are carrying out crimes such as this.”

According to witnesses, the shooter was in the last car of the train and was seen pacing. Police Department Chief Kenneth Corey said, “Without provocation, (he) pulled out a gun and fired it at the victim at close range.”

A 9 mm shell casing was recovered at the scene.

The gunman exited at the Canal Street subway station in Chinatown and has not yet been found. Police are reviewing platform video to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Witnesses said the suspect was wearing a dark-colored hoodie sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and white sneakers.

Police released a photo of the suspect, obtained from subway video cameras.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
