The driver of the tractor trailer where at least 51 migrants were found dead in Texas on Monday, was caught yesterday. According to authorities, he was “very high on meth.”
Homero Zamorano, 45, had abandoned his truck with dozens of migrants locked inside, in the sweltering heat, on a road in San Antonio. The migrants were found after a nearby city worker heard cries for help. The bodies of over 50 people were discovered and multiple others were transported to the hospital for heat-related injuries.
“He was very high on meth when he was arrested nearby and had to be taken to the hospital,” a law enforcement official told the San Antonio Express News.
After the gruesome discovery, police were able to find the vehicle’s registration number and traced it to an address in San Antonio.
They later arrested two other men, Juan Claudio D’Luna-Mendez and Juan Francisco D’Luna-Bilbao, associated with that address. The men were charged with firearm possession and residing in the US illegally.
