Thursday, July 14: 7-Eleven says it will give a $100,000 reward for information that helps police find the suspect involved at six robberies overnight on Monday, in their stores located near Los Angeles, in Brea, La Habra, Santa Ana, Ontario, Upland and Riverside.
The six heists in several separate 7-Eleven locations on Monday, in the middle of the night, in three counties in Southern California, appear to be connected.
Two people were killed and three were wounded from gunshots.
Four other 7-Eleven or donut shop businesses were hit on Saturday, but the LA Police Department has not confirmed if they are connected to the Monday robberies.
Surveillance cameras have not been as reliable as hoped, but police say the armed suspect was wearing a hoodie and a mask covering half of his face. He appears to be about 25-30-years-old, of average height, and around 170 lbs. He used a semi-automatic handgun.
Police in Upland confirmed that an armed robbery happened at around 12:37 a.m., in which no one was injured but groceries, wine bottles and cash were stolen.
At around 1:50 a.m., in Riverside, a customer was shot in a 7-Eleven. The victim, Jason Harrel, a 46-year-old father of three children, is in critical condition.
Soon after, at around 3:25 am, another robbery occurred in a 7-Eleven store in Santa Ana, and the armed intruder shot a 24-year-old man, Matthew Rule, who did not survive the shooting. Police say that the suspect shot Rule outside the store.
At around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, a 7-Eleven employee, Matthew Hirsch, 40, was shot in Brea in Orange County. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
About 20 minutes later, in the last incident of the night, presumably the same suspect entered a 7-Eleven in La Habra, and shot a customer and an employee. They are expected to survive.
Police are piecing together the timeline with the help of surveillance cameras.
