A cruise ship hit an iceberg in Alaska on Sunday. No one was injured but it created quite a stir as people were knocked to the floor.
The Norwegian Cruise Line ship, the Norwegian Sun, stopped in Seattle for repairs after hitting an iceberg near the Hubbard Glacier in Alaska.
The ship holds about 2,000 passengers. It was not significantly damaged and was allowed to change course and go to Juneau, Alaska, where it was inspected. It was allowed by authorities to travel to Seattle at reduced speed.
The collision was not on the activity calendar for passengers. One witness onboard told reporters the crash sounded like someone loudly slammed a door. Other witnesses reported stronger reactions, including fears of a “Titanic” moment.
Benjamin Talbott, a passenger on the ship, told CBS news that he and his brother noticed the iceberg in the water just before the ship hit it, and Talbott managed to catch the collision on his camera phone.
“Then all [of a] sudden, boom, the whole ship shakes. And I’m like, ‘well, what’s going on?’ And then I had to start recording and I looked at the front of the ship and all I see is this… iceberg just turning over and coming down. And I was like, ‘Oh my God, we hit an iceberg,’” he said.
The video is circulating on social media.
The voyage was cut short and people were forced to disembark in Seattle.
