On Friday morning, the White House released a photo of President Joe Biden working in the White House residence, where he is isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.
The photo shows Biden, wearing a mask, signing the Formula Act, a bill that temporarily removes tariffs on imported baby formula.
In a video posted to Twitter, Biden said that he is “doing well” and that he was continuing to work while in isolation at the White House.
Biden was contacted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who wished him a “speedy recovery.” Chinese state media said that Chinese President reached out to Biden on Friday.
Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House COVID Response Coordinator, said on Friday that Biden was “doing just fine,” during an interview with John Berman on CNN’s “New Day.” He said he had last spoken to Biden’s medical team around 10 pm Thursday night.
On ABC’s Good Morning America, when asked about Biden’s age, Dr. Jha said, “He is about as well-protected for this virus as possible,” referring to the four vaccine shots the president has had, and that he is taking the antiviral, Paxlovid.
Dr. Jha said that Biden was experiencing mild symptoms, including a runny nose, fatigue and dry cough.
Biden returned home last week from a trip to Israel and Saudi Arabia, where he shook hands and embraced many world leaders.
The President rarely wears a mask in the recent past and hosts crowded events in the White House.
When asked why Biden was seen maskless on Thursday, after testing positive, in a photograph and in a video of him outside released by the White House, White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, said the videographer and photographer were at least six feet away and wearing N95 masks.
