The Italian government is falling apart, as Italian President Sergio Mattarella dissolved parliament on Thursday, paving the way for a new election following the resignation of Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
The prime minister quit but is being asked to stay on and act as an advisor.
The new election is likely to be in late September. A far-right conservative party, Brother of Italy, is expected to achieve a majority in the election.
The president, in an address at the Quirinale Palace in Rome, said that government must continue to be on top of the issues important to the people, including economic and social crisis, and rising inflation.
