Johnny Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, filed an appeal in Circuit Court of Fairfax County in Virginia, subsequent to the highly popularized defamation trial, because she and her lawyers “believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict.”

A spokesperson for Depp said they are confident the verdict will be upheld.

Depp’s spokesperson’s statement said, “The jury listened to the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and came to a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself defamed Mr. Depp, in multiple instances. We remain confident in our case and that this verdict will stand.”

On June 1, a seven-person jury delivered the verdict, awarding Depp more than $10 million in damages.

The jury awarded Heard $2 million in damages on one of her three defamation countersuits.
