The man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl who was forced to travel from Ohio to Indiana for an abortion, was indicted by a grand jury in Ohio.
Gerson Fuentes, 27, was charged with two felony counts of rape.
The story went viral after the abortion provider in Indianapolis, Dr. Caitlin Bernard, told reporters that the 10-year-old had to cross state lines because a “fetal heartbeat” law was enforced right after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. The law bans abortions at the first detectable “fetal heartbeat.”
Ohio allows no exceptions for cases involving rape or incest.Fuentes confessed and was arrested on July 12. If convicted, he faces a sentence of life in prison and deportation.
