Tired of illegal migrants? Ship them off to New York City and Washington, DC.
That’s what Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Governor Doug Ducey of Arizona have been doing since April.
Abbott sent a busload of 50 illegal migrants from Texas to the Port Authority bus station in New York City this week.
He says he is fed up with the illegal border-crossers in his state, and is making a political point by shipping them off to “liberal” cities.
“Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” said Abbott.
The Texas governor is also sending migrants to Washington, DC. A busload arrived Tuesday night. It’s reported that over 5,000 migrants have already been sent to the nation’s capitol.
Abbott said, “In addition to Washington, DC, New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city. I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief.”
Muriel Bowser, Washington, DC’s mayor, requested that the National Guard be activated to assist with what she called a “humanitarian crisis.” She appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation” last week to discuss the persistent homelessness problem plaguing her city.
The tactics by the governors of Texas and Arizona are seen as not only political, but cruel. Democrats see their moves as a plan that has been long in the making.
Governor Abbott is responsible for Operation Lone Star, a program to take away the federal government’s power over immigration enforcement and grant it to state officers. The Justice Department has already launched an investigation into this plan due to alleged civil rights violations.
The Texas and Arizona governors’ shipping migrants from the Texas-Mexico border to places run by Democrats is cruel and a waste of money and could be illegal.
“There are ongoing questions about what authority they have to bus people from one location to another,” said Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, policy director at the American Immigration Council.
After the Mayors of NYC and DC requested federal funding to assist with the arrival of migrants from Texas and Arizona, Governor Abbott publicly shared a letter, inviting the mayors to the border to witness the crisis first-hand.
Abbott claimed the border crisis was “created by President Biden,” even though it wasn’t, and blamed the migrants for drugs and crimes in the US, a racist tactic used by former President Donald Trump and now pushed by the Texas Governor as he seeks voter approval.
“President Biden’s reckless open border policies have created a dangerous environment not only for tens of millions of Texans, but for communities all across the nation, including yours,” Abbott claimed.
“I look forward to welcoming you [to] the Texas-Mexico border so that you can see this crisis for yourself,” he added. “Please contact my office to make travel arrangements for your visits.”
