New York City has become a “war zone.”
That’s what a 24-year-old Elizabeth, New Jersey man said after his wife was hit by a bullet, while riding in their car on the Williamsburg Bridge, which connects Brooklyn and Manhattan.
The man was driving at around 11 p.m. on Saturday, from Brooklyn to Manhattan, with his 21-year-old wife and his 4-year-old child in their Honda, when the bullet entered the car and hit his wife in the neck.
The bullet was a close call for the youngster in the back seat.
Although initially shocked, the man quickly knew what was happening and rushed his family to Elmhurst Hospital in Queens. She was treated and luckily only suffered minor injuries.
“She’s OK,” the driver said on Sunday after the nightmare episode. “She’s resting. The bullet went through the skin in the back of her neck, in one side and out the other.”
“It’s crazy what’s going on. It’s like a war out there. I’m afraid to go out anymore,” he added.
The child in the car was uninjured.
Police are investigating the origin of the bullet.
