President Joe Biden had sharp words to say in a televised primetime speech in Philadelphia, the home of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and other Founding Fathers, on Thursday night. On the campaign trail, and planning for the midterm elections, Biden is not only concerned about preserving and increasing the Democratic majority in the Congress, but says he is also concerned about the health of the country democracy with his “whole soul.”
Biden warned that former Trump and his extremist allies and followers will stop at nothing to undermine American democracy.
“As I stand here tonight, equality and democracy are under assault,” Biden stressed to his audience.
“MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards,” Biden said, “backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.”
Biden reminded his listeners that the midterm elections will determine who controls Congress, and will have an effect on the most important issues concerning Americans – healthcare, gun violence, the economy, abortion rights, and more.
The speech focused on separating Trump’s loyal followers from conservative Republicans, stressing that their goals are different. He urged voters to “rein in” Trump’s and his most extreme supporters, whose methods include violence, fraud and voter intimidation.
Biden’s recent aggressive comments have made a lot of Republicans angry. He accused some Trump supporters of being “semi-fascists” at a fundraiser last week.
“I believe America is at an inflection point,” the president said in front of Independence Hall, ”one of those moments that determine the shape of everything that’s to come after. And now America must choose to move forward or to move backwards.”
Biden warned that the MAGA extremists see their 2020 failure to overturn the election as preparation for future elections. ”This time they are determined to succeed in thwarting the will of the people,” he said.
