Gunfire is becoming a common way of settling arguments in the US.

A 22-year-old Dallas man was arrested on Friday for murdering his stepfather during an altercation.

Officers found 50-year-old Adrian Cole dead near the front door of an apartment in the 3400 block of Terrell Street around 3:45 a.m. Friday with multiple gunshot wounds.

A witness identified De Jairron Cooper, Cole’s stepson, as the shooter, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

After leaving the crime scene, Cooper had returned to the apartment, armed with a handgun, and found the officers at the apartment. He was taken into custody by police.

Cooper admitted that he shot his stepfather, who he says had arrived at the apartment during the night and banged on the door trying to get access inside. Cooper said that the two had gotten into an argument and that he shot Cole twice when the older man got aggressive with him.

Cooper is in Dallas County jail and is charged with murder.
