“To see is to believe” must be Muhammad Khan’s motto in life. He tried to put this into practice when he tried to rush towards Queen Elizabeth II’s casket to see if she was indeed dead.
The Queen died on September 8, 2022.
Last Friday, the 28-year-old was among the mourners who were in line to see the Queen’s coffin in Westminster Hall. After waiting in line for more than 10 hours, Khan rushed up towards the Queen’s coffin, climbed the steps, and pulled the flag using both hands. The incident happened at around 10 p.m.
The disturbance caused confusion among the people in line and the live feed was paused.
It was reported that aside from what he did, Khan wanted to write a letter to the Royal Family. If he was not able to receive a reply, he planned to go to Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and Balmoral, the Queen’s residences, to “make contact” with her and verify his belief that she was alive.
Judge Snow, who presided over Khan’s case, said that Khan believes that King Charles plotted a fake funeral, and delusionally thinks that the Queen is still alive.
The police apprehended him immediately and he was charged with an offense under Section 4A under the Public Order Act. The Public Order Act was made in 1986 to “abolish the common law offenses of riot” and maintain peace and order.
His next court appearance is scheduled for October 18, and he was allowed to go out on bail, provided that he is housed in a mental health institution.
