First they were invited. Then they were uninvited. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were “baffled” by what happened.
In what may have been a mishap during a chaotic mourning period, Sunday night, September 11, the couple was sent an invitation to the pre-funeral reception on the following Saturday for the late Queen Elizabeth II, which was to be hosted by King Charles III and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, at Buckingham Palace.
But the couple found out later, from news reports, that they were not actually invited. It appears that the pair were not officially told that they were uninvited to the gathering.
Another royal drama scene. Reports from the press reached the couple before the family could let them know they weren’t welcome at the Saturday event.
World leaders such as President Joe Biden, President Emmanuel Macron, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and foreign royals were invited to attend.
“The invite is for working members of the royal family only,” a spokesperson wrote. It is well-known that Prince Harry gave up his royal duties when he and Meghan Markle moved to the US.
Actions have consequences.
To stir things up more, Prince Harry’s wearing his military uniform sparked controversy, as he was not supposed to wear it. Only working royals are allowed to wear the uniform. When he was in the army, he was a captain and took two tours of Afghanistan, which is recognized and respected. Permission had to be given by his father, King Charles, to wear the uniform during the ceremony. Dad said okay.
There were speculations that the relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William was improving during the week of mourning and the funeral ceremonies, but some incidents prove otherwise.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan stepped down as working members of the royal family in 2021 when they moved to California. This created a rift between the couple and Harry’s brother Prince William.
The two couples, Prince William and his wife, Kate, and Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, were together to view tributes left for the Queen. Some hoped that their relationship was thawing, but this remains to be seen.
It appears that there are still matters related to pomp and circumstance, or worse, personal issues, that keep the family members apart.
A source close to the family has revealed that Meghan wrote a letter to King Charles III, her father-in-law, requesting to speak with him privately.
Meghan to the rescue? Or stirring the pot?
