A press release issued by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported a Texas home invasion on September 9. In the middle of the night, at around 10:40 p.m., gunshots were heard in downtown Houston in the vicinity of Channelview.
The investigation revealed that the shots were fired by a 17-year-old resident of Channelview, after three armed men wearing masks entered his house. The house was occupied by a woman and her three children, one of whom was responsible for the shooting.
Ed Gonzalez, the Harris County Sheriff, stated in a news release that the weapon used in the shooting was identified as a shotgun, which was confirmed to be in possession of the family. At the crime scene, two of the three men were found lying wounded on the house’s lawn. EMS personnel inspected the victims and pronounced the two perpetrators dead.
Investigators said that the two dead men were accompanied by a third man. The teenage boy had fired several times at the three men, but the third accomplice managed to escape open fire and rushed towards a dark sedan and fled.
So far, the identity of the three suspects is unknown, and the house members have denied having any acquaintance with them. The details regarding the sedan have not been revealed either.
Further information is required to finish the investigation, but the Sheriff believes that the boy was justified in defending his family and shooting at the house invaders. The case is being presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Officers are working around the clock to uncover more information as to who the suspects are and whether there was any underlying relationship between them and the family.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office plans to present the case to a grand jury to determine whether charges should be brought against the 17-year-old boy.
