A horrifying video shows an 18-wheeler truck flying over an Allen, Texas overpass, after it rammed into another vehicle and erupted into a huge ball of fire, killing the driver.
The appalling footage captures the exact moment the incident occurred, The truck driver went through the barrier on the overpass, and the vehicle flew down and burst into flames immediately after landing on the road below.
The unfortunate, 71-year-old driver of the truck, Gustavo Gomez, from Dallas, died on the spot, as packages, letters, and papers flew all over and landed on the road.
An employee from USPS was seen circling the crash site, taking photos of the burnt truck, and talking on the phone.
WFAA ascertained that although Mr. Gomez was not an official employee of USPS, he worked for the Bancroft and Sons shipping company that had a contract with the postal service company to provide transportation services for them.
Allen police promptly arrived at the scene and said they found the trailer suspended on the right safety barrier. Upon further investigation, they found the driver, who had already died from injuries from the accident.
Gomez had been a truck driver for the past 21 years, and he and his wife have five children. According to his wife, he was a great truck driver.
As stated by DailyMail, the wife of the late truck driver, Helen Torres, said that her husband was a very humorous person and that he was in every way a “truck driver,” adding that Gomez was very good at his job and that he appreciated a good working car when he saw one.
“He was a very hard worker,” Torres said. “He always has been for his family. Whatever it was, whether it was driving across the country or not, he always made sure we were taken care of and provided for.”
Torres confirmed that her husband had been severely burned in the road accident that resulted in the fire, adding that she did not understand what happened. She said that she did not believe that the accident resulted from something her husband did because she knew he was a very careful driver. Gomez was especially careful when driving big machines; according to her, he had to be alert because he knew what he was driving.
Torres called for a thorough investigation into what caused the accident.
The Texas Department of Transportation said that they had deployed crews to the scene and were already investigating, which caused a huge traffic snarl-up on the highway spanning miles.
In a statement released by USPS, they said that the accident involved a contractor who transports mail for the postal company and that their thoughts and prayers were with the family of the deceased.
The other car’s driver in the collision did not sustain any injuries before Gomez’ truck veered off the overpass. He was spotted cooperating with the authorities at the scene.
Torres said that the trucking company her husband worked for, Bancroft and Sons Transportation, had generously offered to pay for her husband’s funeral.
