A suburb of Atlanta had their share of violence on Thursday night. Cobbs County has 760,000 people and is northwest of Atlanta.
Two Cobbs County Sheriff’s office deputies were shot and killed while they were attempting to serve a warrant for the arrest of two people.
Sheriff Owens made a statement that the deputies were shot “in the line of duty” while they were talking to the suspects at a residence near Marietta.
Details are unclear, but it appears that the deputies arrived at the house and rang the doorbell but no one answered. They returned to their vehicle, but a car pulled up and the deputies were talking to a person, assumed to be the suspect, at which point shots were fired.
A SWAT team was able to barricade the suspects and they were apprehended after a four hour stand-off. One of the suspects may have been in the house.
The shooters are being held for questioning at the Cobb County Police Department.
Owens said the deputies were serving a warrant for “failure to appear on a theft charge by deception.”
The names of the officers and the suspects were not released to the public.
