Many people may remember the 54-year-old star of “Jerry Maguire,” and many other movies – Cuba Gooding, Jr.
He just took a “sweet” plea deal keeping him out of jail in a NYC sex abuse case.
Gooding had his “forcible touching” charge reduced on Thursday to second-degree harassment.
He has completed a six-month alcohol prevention program and behavior modification counseling, and his record is now clear, as part of the actor’s April plea deal with the Manhattan District Attorney.
Gooding Jr had originally faced six counts of sexual abuse and forcible touching for allegedly groping and kissing three women without their permission, in three incidents in NYC clubs. He could have faced a year in prison if he hadn’t taken the plea deal. His charges were reduced from a misdemeanor to harassment, which is a noncriminal charge.
His legal problems started in 2019, when Gooding was charged with sexual abuse and forcible touching by Kelsey Harbert. She told detectives that he had touched her breast inside the rooftop bar, Magic Hour, at the top of a NYC Times Square Hotel.
Gooding has had several accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior.
Although the actor is no longer facing criminal charges, there are still two active civil suits against him in NYC.
He got away easy with a wrist slap. He just has to stay away from booze, continue his treatment and behave himself.
Besides “Jerry Maguire,” Gooding is known for “Boyz in the Hood,” and he portrayed OJ Simpson in the 2016 television series “The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.”
