A new incident has caught the attention of social media users, regarding Prince Andrew of the UK royal family, always in the public eye whether he likes it or not.
After a man shouted profanities at Prince Andrew during Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral procession, two other men assaulted the shouting man and threw him to the ground. All three men have been arrested.
Authorities launched an investigation into the incident when the two mourners decided to get involved as the loud mouth protester started verbally abusing Prince Andrew while he was walking behind the queen’s coffin on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The incident, which was recorded, happened on the afternoon of September 12. The widely circulated video shows the 22-year-old protester shouting at Prince Andrew, calling him “a sick old man,” because of the sexual assault accusations against him. The two other men were seen pushing the 22-year-old to the ground after his outburst. The young man that was mocking the prince was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace. Police released him, but did not disclose the date he would be arraigned in court.
Prince Andrew, unlike his siblings, did not wear military attire since he isn’t a working member of the royal family. Instead of military clothes, he wore a suit. Prince Andrew, the Duke of York stepped down from his royal duties in 2019 because of allegations of sexual assault against him.
In 2014, Virginia Giuffre accused the Prince Andrew and several other prominent people of sexually assaulting her. Ms. Giuffre claimed that Prince Andrew slept with her three times when she was a minor.
Although Prince Andrew continuously denied the allegations against him, he decided to settle out of court before the sexual abuse case by Giuffre went to trial. The settlement amount of $13.55 million went to Ms. Giuffre’s charity organization for sexual assault victims.
Many people, including several former royal staff members, came out to corroborate Virginia’s allegations against him and stories connecting him to sex-traffickers. In January 2022, the late Queen stripped the 62-year-old of all his royal patronages and military affiliations. The patronages were returned to the queen to be distributed to other royal family members.
Since the stripping of the royal titles, Prince Andrew was demoted to the bottom of the palace website. He will have to defend himself against all future cases as a private citizen, as the monarchy seeks to distance itself from his alleged actions.
