An Amber Alert was issued on Tuesday, November 1, in the town of Rosenberg, Texas, for a one-year-old girl, Leylani Ordonez. The child’s father, 24-year-old Alexander Barrios Ordonez, had abducted her.
The father first made a visit to a man he once worked for, Ruben Salazar, stabbed him and stole his truck. He then went to his daughter’s babysitter’s house and kidnapped his child after pushing the babysitter aside.
Police was contacted and the Amber Alert was issued. On Wednesday, at about 2 am, police in Sugar Land found the truck and a high-speed pursuit of the vehicle followed for about an hour. The truck was stopped by a spike strip and the suspect exited the truck with his daughter, and she was seen to be covered in blood from stab wounds.
Rosenberg Police Department Lt. Suni Jugueta said, “We don’t know the exact moment when the baby was injured. But we do know that when he exited the vehicle, the baby was already bloody.”
The father then stabbed himself before the police could get to him. Both he and the baby died.
Police said Ordonez didn’t have a criminal record. The owner of the tow truck is expected to recover from his injuries.
“I’d never thought he would be the type to hurt her,” the girl’s mother, who did not want to be identified, told media outlet KTRK. “When we split up, he wasn’t mentally stable, talking about killing himself. I didn’t want my daughter around that.”
