After more than a decade, Casey Anthony finally is stepping into the spotlight. It remains to be seen if anyone wants to hear what she has to say.
On July 15, 2008, two-year-old Caylee, Casey Anthony’s daughter, was reported missing by her grandmother. Anthony told the authorities that Caylee was last seen with her babysitter on June 16, a month earlier.
On December 11, Caylee’s body was found. Six months later. Anthony was then charged with child neglect.
During the trial it was discovered that she lied about a few things, which included telling people that her daughter was with a babysitter and about speaking to her daughter before she disappeared. The case escalated to first-degree murder but after an 11-hour-long jury deliberation, she was found not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, and aggravated child abuse. Finally, she was convicted of lying to the authorities.
Caylee’s death remains unsolved.
Jose Baez, Anthony’s defense lawyer, said that the girl drowned and her death was covered up by someone other than Anthony. Prosecutors said that Anthony used chloroform to asphyxiate the child, then used duct tape to cover her mouth.
The case, which had viewers in the nation on the edge of their seats, will finally be told by Anthony, now 36-years-old, from her point of view. A docuseries entitled “Where the Truth Lies” will be about her daughter’s disappearance, death, her arrest, the trial, and what happened after. The documentary will be shown exclusively on Peacock starting November 29 and will be a three-part limited series.
