On October 12, security footage shows a pedestrian standing outside a building in Ortaca, Mugla Province, West Turkey. They tried to check what object fell from above but ran away in shock when a teenage girl soon dropped from the top of the building and horribly hit the concrete.

The girl was identified as Melike Gun Kanavuzlar. According to reports, after taking a selfie, she tried to save her phone from falling from the building, which unfortunately made her lose her balance and caused her to fall from the four-story building.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and brought her to a state hospital, where the girl was in critical condition. Soon after, they transferred her to a hospital in Mugla, southwestern Turkey to an Intensive Care Unit. After 18 days of bravely fighting for her life, Kanavuzlar died from her injuries. She was laid to rest on October 30.

Similar stories in various parts of the world have also been reported recently. In August, an Italian man, who went up to a mountaintop with his girlfriend, fell 650 feet while trying to save his phone after taking a selfie.

In another incident in 2018, a teenage aspiring actress from New York also fell to her death when she climbed a fire exit while trying to get her phone, which was located behind a locked door.
