A teen accused of stabbing a 13-year-old cheerleader to death in 2021 has been in solitary confinement for over a year. His lawyers have tried to move him, but the court wasn’t convinced and he is staying where he is. Alone.
Alden Fucci was only 14 years old when he was accused of stabbing Tristyn Bailey, a 13-year-old cheerleader, 114 times on Mother’s Day in 2021.
Her dead body was found near a pond in Durbin Crossing, south of Jacksonville, Mississippi. She was seen on security footage with a person who was believed to be Fucci at around 1:45 am.
On her left ankle was written the word “karma” with a smiley face drawn on her right ankle.
While Fucci was picked up by the police and was in the backseat of the police car, he posted a photo on Snapchat, with a peace sign, and the caption, “Hey guys has inybody [sic] seen Tristyn lately?”
Police said that the teen had told some of his friends that he wanted to “take someone into the woods and stab them,” making the police believe that he had a plan to kill.
The two young teens attended school at Patriot Oaks Academy.
Fucci is being tried as an adult for first-degree murder. He was placed in solitary confinement in Duval County since St. Johns County jail does not admit juveniles.
The teenager, now 16 years old, has been in solitary confinement for more than 400 days, out of the total 583 days that he has been in custody. He was placed in solitary because of a suicide watch, and for his own protection. In November, his lawyers filed a motion to get him transferred to another facility.
During a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday, Judge Lee Smith denied multiple requests to get Fucci out of solitary confinement and said that they are working towards finding a less restrictive way to detain the accused killer.
Fucci’s mother, Crystal Smith, was charged with tampering with evidence because she allegedly washed blood off of Fucci’s jeans. Both mother and son have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Fucci’s trial is scheduled to start on February 6, 2023.
