On Saturday, Eleanor Bowles, 77, was discovered dead in her garage from stab wounds, within a gated neighborhood in an Atlanta suburb. Around 5:30 pm, Bowles’ son found her dead, after the suspect, Antonio Brown, 23, allegedly attacked her with a knife in her Buckhead home following a failed carjacking, according to authorities.
Around 11:30 am, according to the police, Brown broke into Bowles’ garage and tried to steal her 2021 Lexus RS350, when she entered the garage to stop the thief. Police said that after stabbing her many times, Brown fled in her car. Police in DeKalb County located the car, which had been driven all over Atlanta, and retrieved it on Saturday night.
How Brown entered the guarded community is not clear. When Bowles’ son arrived at the house on Paces West Terrace on Saturday evening to visit his mother for the holidays, he discovered her bleeding corpse in the garage. At a news conference, Atlanta Deputy Chief Charles Hampton, Jr stated, “The son returned home to visit his mom for the holidays. A family shouldn’t have to spend their holiday season grieving over the loss of a loved one in this way.”
Brown was detained on Monday and has now been charged with murder, serious violence, weapon possession, elder abuse, and carjacking. He was booked into Fulton County jail.
According to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, someone who saw Brown in the publicized person of interest photo recognized him and phoned the police, resulting in his arrest.
The mayor added in his announcement that a third suspect in the past month’s killings of a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old was also detained. Regarding the recent events, Dickens reiterated that criminals in the city will pay for their crimes.
