The media platform Peacock, owned by NBC Universal, released a three-part short docuseries entitled “Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies” on November 29.
Casey Anthony spoke in the interviews about her famous trial and the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death in 2008. Anthony was acquitted in 2011 of the murder, child abuse, and manslaughter charges against her.
Casey Anthony made shocking accusations against her father in her first on-camera interview since the trial.
It has been more than ten years since Casey Anthony, now 36, made national headlines after the police found her daughter’s remains in the woods, and a jury acquitted her.
Anthony’s two-year-old daughter, Caylee, disappeared in June 2008. She was last seen alive on June 16, 2008, but she was not reported missing until a month later on July 15, 2008. Six months later, police found her skeletal remains in a wooded area near the child’s home.
Anthony was charged with murder, but her lawyers said that Caylee died from drowning in the family pool. On July 5, 2011, a jury acquitted Casey Anthony of murder but convicted her for lying to the police about her daughter’s disappearance.
In the interview, Anthony accused her father, George Anthony, of sexually abusing her when she was eight years old and for at least four years after that. She also said that her father lied to the police to cover up her daughter’s death.
Anthony accused her father of staging Caylee’s drowning to cover up his own abuse of the little girl. She said that on the day of the drowning, June 16, 2008, she made her daughter breakfast and took a nap with the toddler.
She reported that she was woken up by her father, who said that Caylee was missing. She searched the house and yard, and when she returned to the house she found her father holding Caylee’s soaking-wet body.
Anthony’s bombshell story alleges that her father handed the child’s dead body to her, and told her it was her fault. She says she collapsed with her daughter’s body in her arms. Her father allegedly reassured her that everything would be okay, and took the child’s lifeless body from her. He did not call the police or try to resuscitate Caylee, according to Anthony, nor did she.
Anthony said she did not report Caylee missing because her father was telling her the child was fine. Where did she think the child was after her father took her away? Why was she not concerned that the child wasn’t with her for a month? What emotional state was she in that she let her child be missing from her life? She had held the child’s dead body in her arms. Why was the child not reported missing until a month later? These are the unanswered questions that viewers hope will be answered in the interviews.
Anthony said she went along with what her father told her to do but looking back now, she does not believe her daughter died from drowning. She believes her father put Caylee’s body in the pool to cover his tracks.
The distraught mother said she thought her father had started sexually abusing Caylee and wished she had spoken about it to someone at the time.
Anthony admitted that she lied to the police and she was convicted for giving the police false information. She told the police that the child was taken by a babysitter. When asked why she believed her father even after having her dead child’s body in her arms, she said that she was under his influence due to the hold he had over her and the history of sexual abuse.
George Anthony has not been arrested in connection to Caylee’s death. He denied the accusations against him in court during the trial.
Social media viewers are aghast at her story and are not buying it. Twitter is aflame with complaints about the series and Peacock’s airing of it.
Viewers are still wondering where the truth lies.
