A 17-year-old boy from Florida is accused of stabbing his mother several times with a knife and beating her with a frying pan until the handle broke because she always asks him to clean up his room.
Police identified the teenager as Tobias Jacob Brewer, who they arrested on November 30. They booked him into a juvenile detention center after he allegedly attacked his mother with a knife and a frying pan several times and led police on a pursuit, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The police chose to identify the suspect because he will be tried as an adult.
The police released his arrest report, which revealed new details about the boy’s attack on his mom.
The report revealed that the 17-year-old told police detectives during an interview that he lost it, stabbed his mother multiple times using a pocket knife, and then took a frying pan and hit her head until the handle broke.
He told investigators that he attacked his mother because he was upset with her for constantly nagging him about tidying up his room.
The suspect told officers that cleaning was not on the list of his favorite chores.
According to the report, Brewer told detectives that after the handle of the frying pan broke, he took both of her car keys, went into her purse, and took out some money so that he could have cash once he fled the area.
The boy also admitted to the police that he texted his friend about the attack on his mother and asked him to come to his home and bring a gun to shoot his mother. The report indicated the friend he texted said he would not bring a gun but would go to their house with a knife. Authorities also note on the arrest report that the friend is autistic.
Brewer’s friend told authorities that he was standing outside Brewer’s house when he heard noises coming from the back of the home.
He walked into the house to see what was causing the loud noises, and he saw Brewer holding a frying pan and standing over his mother, who was begging him to stop hurting her.
Police received a 911 call to the home and responding officers found Brewer’s mother lying in the laundry room doorway with blood all over her face, and her nose almost completely removed from the brutal attack.
When the police arrived, Brewer’s mother was able to tell them her son had attacked her.
She took a breath and said, “Toby did this.”
She was transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition.
When police arrived, Brewer had already left his home with his friend and girlfriend. Brewer took his mom’s Kia Rio, and his friend and girlfriend took his mom’s, Jeep Wrangler.
The trio fled to the girlfriend’s home, but they fled the home again, and Brewer led police on a pursuit through several counties. Authorities finally caught up with him when his car crashed in a wooded area.
Brewer faces several charges, including first-degree attempted murder, stealing a vehicle, and fleeing and eluding police.
