During a failed armed robbery in Las Vegas, Nevada a disguised car thief was shot dead by his victim after she managed to take his gun.

According to police records acquired by local broadcaster KSNV, the victim and another woman said they were in a parked car, getting ready to go to  a party, when the car was blocked by another vehicle and three gunmen sprang out and pointed their weapons at them.

One of the assailants pulled the driver from the vehicle and jumped inside. He had difficulty starting the car due to it’s push-to-start technology. He put his gun on his lap as he concentrated on starting the car. The expelled woman driver grabbed the gun through the open window and fled.

As one of the other gang members tackled her, the woman shot him in the head. According to the report, another assailant shot at her repeatedly as she fled for her life. Soon after police arrived and discovered the ski mask-wearing carjacker bleeding heavily from the head. The woman came out from a neighboring yard where she had been hiding with her hands raised.

The individual who was shot was declared dead on the spot, but his identity was not given in the reports. According to Fox5Vegas, the woman was handcuffed but informed she was not being arrested, as she acted in self defense.

The incident took place on November 19 but only came to the attention of media when one of the alleged carjackers, Jaylin Morrison, 18, was apprehended on December 9.

Morrison was recognized by a friend of the deceased, and cell phone records later connected him to the scene. Three firearms, including a Glock 45 with ammo that matched those that were left at the crime site, were discovered by police at Morrison’s apartment after his detention.

Morrison was granted $50,000 in bond and detained at the Clark County Detention Facility. He is charged with first-degree abduction, attempted robbery, burglary with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 20.

After Morrison was apprehended, a second unidentified individual admitted to law enforcement that he had been in the car with Morrison as it was being carjacked.

The investigation continues.
