A man and his wife were found dead in Marshfield, Massachusetts, victims of a brutal stabbing and beating at least a week earlier, along with their dead dog.
Police were alerted to enter the home for a wellness check at the end of November, and found 70-year-olds Carl and Vicki Mattson dead inside their Marshfield, Massachusetts home. They had been stabbed and beaten to death, and their dog, which had been reported missing, was found with them.
A man who was living with the couple in their home was suspected. After an argument due to the dog’s loud barking, the couple tried to get Christopher Keeley, 27, to move out.
The wellness check was requested by one of Keeley’s friends, who called police when Keeley told him that he was extremely angry about the argument and being asked leave. The friend said Keeley was acting “psychotic,” and was known to carry knives. He said that Keeley had spoken about hurting other people.
Keeley was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida on December 2 after he attacked a man with a hammer in an unrelated incident. Keeley had traveled to Miami Beach to dodge police and had changed his hair color to red after the murder of the Massachusetts couple.
Keeley had a history of violence. When he was 18 years old, he was charged with malicious damage to a vehicle after breaking the window of his grandmother’s car after an argument about a phone charger.
Keeley was also arrested in 2016 for attacking and stealing from an autistic man. Court documents also showed that he faced drug charges after Xanax and marijuana were found in his car.
The suspect waived an extradition hearing and was ordered to be returned to Massachusetts to face charges for the double murder.
