It may be making a mountain out of a mole hill, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (and Netflix) could be in hot water for taking photos in Buckingham Palace using a private photographer without the permission of the late monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, (and showing them on the new Netflix documentary series that aired December 8).
The Netflix trailer, and the docuseries, “Harry and Meghan,” shows photos of the couple walking in the palace garden and other areas of the palace.
The offending photos were taken in March 2020, before the couple returned to the US and had already decided to resign from their royal duties.
Royal protocol states that even members of the royal family need to ask permission to film inside the palace.
When the photographer took the photos, some palace aides were not happy with Prince Harry and Meghan’s decision to bring a photographer into the palace without permission and they complained about it.
Prince Harry and Meghan allegedly were unaware of the warning, and no one asked the photographer stop taking pictures.
The Royal Collections Trust sets the rules and photography or filming is forbidden, unless a memo asking permission is sent to the monarch, and permission is granted.
Specifically, photos for commercial purposes are not allowed, and the couple signed a deal with Netflix for $100 million. Netflix includes the photos in the docuseries.
The documentary, “Harry and Meghan,” is a six-part docuseries that follows the couple’s relationship from when they met, until they decided to quit their royal duties.
The filming for their documentary has made headlines several times, and a Netflix crew was banned from filming the couple during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.
It remains to be seen if the Palace will take action against Netflix of the Duke and Duchess after the bombshell revelations and photos are aired.
