Sheriffs in Texas were shocked to find a woman’s decapitated body in a rural home in Waller County on January 11.
The deceased woman was identified as newlywed, 21-year-old Anggy Diaz.
The Waller County Sheriff, Troy Guidry, told reporters they arrested her new husband, Jared James Dicus, and charged him with her murder.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a 911 call about a deceased woman in a house on Oak Hollow Blvd around 4:30 pm. They found the horrifying scene inside the home Diaz shared with her husband, near his parents’ house.
Police said Dicus used a kitchen knife to kill his wife. Sheriff Guidry also said that his office had received some earlier calls about domestic disturbances in the house, but they were nothing compared to the violence discovered in the house on Wednesday.
The Sheriff said it was a gruesome scene and shocked both sides of the family. Friends of Diaz spoke to reporters and said that she was from Nicaragua and had been working two jobs to save money to pay for her cancer-stricken mother’s treatment back home.
Her colleagues described her as a hardworking and joyful young woman who always had a smile on her face.
Sheriff Guidry said that the young woman’s head had been severed, and her husband left her headless body in the house.
Dicus’s father called the police immediately after he and his wife found the woman’s body. They had gone into the house the couple shared after they suspected something strange was going on with their son.
Dicus and his parents remained in the home until officers arrived and took them all into custody to be questioned. Dicus confessed to killing and decapitating his wife.
The couple had only been married for a few months before the murder. They were married in October 2022 after meeting at her work. Her friends said they suspected something was wrong after their wedding, but a murder was the furthest thing from their minds.
According to social media posts by the couple, they appeared to be happy.
