Elisangela Tinem, 38, just wanted to enjoy the beach with her two kids, and celebrate New Year’s with her family, when a firework got caught in her clothes, and exploded, immediately killing the unfortunate woman.

Her two children witnessed their mom’s accident in front of them.

The tragic incident was caught on video, which showed fireworks and a crowd of people on the beach in Praia Grande, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The first part shows fireworks in the sky. Seconds later, the video shows sparks on the ground followed by a loud bang. People tried to run away from the scene to avoid getting caught in the explosion.

The video then shows a body of a woman lying on the ground. Reports also said that another person, who was said to be Tinem’s partner, was also near the explosion, but he managed to stand up soon after.

A witness shared that everyone was enjoying the celebration when suddenly they heard a woman yelling frantically. Since the explosion happened suddenly, no one was able to help her. Medics declared Tinem dead at the scene.

Another witness, 20-year-old Luiza Ferreira, said some of the fireworks displays were unauthorized.

Police are investigating the incident and suspect it may have been a homicide since the explosive was not lit by Tinem or any of her family members. Manslaughter charges could be filed if the police find the owner of the firework.
