Jay Leno seems to have a death wish but like a cat, may have nine lives. A few months ago, he said he “roasted” himself, in a garage fire, and recently he was back in the hospital after an accident, and luckily recovering well.
Just months after the fire that burned his face in his vintage car garage in Los Angeles, and landed him in the hospital where he had multiple surgeries and skin grafts, Leno, 72, had a motorcycle accident last week and broke several bones.
Leno is scheduled to begin performing again in Las Vegas at the end of March. He said, “Then just last week, I got knocked off my motorcycle. So I’ve got a broken collarbone. I’ve got two broken ribs. I’ve got two cracked kneecaps.”
The accident occurred on January 17 when he was testing out a 1940 Indian motorcycle. On the ride, Leno realized the bike was leaking fuel, and detoured down a street with the intention of heading back to the garage to check it out. He cut through a parking lot that had a wire blocking entry, which Leno didn’t see because it didn’t have a sign or a flag on it. He was knocked off the bike and suffered multiple injuries.
When asked by media why he was just telling the public about the accident now, one week later, he jokingly said he didn’t want to “add more fuel to the fire.”
Leno, still able to laugh about his misfortunes, said, “You know, after getting burned up, you get that one for free. After that, you’re Harrison Ford, crashing airplanes. You just want to keep your head down.”
