Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s only child, died on Thursday, January 12, after being hospitalized earlier that day after going into cardiac arrest. She died at the age of 54.

Priscilla Presley released a statement on Thursday evening announcing the news of Lisa Marie’s death, adding that she was the most loving, passionate, and strongest woman she had ever known. Priscilla thanked everyone for their support, love, and prayers and asked for privacy as the family mourned their loved one.

The devastating announcement came just hours after Priscilla confirmed that Lisa Marie had been hospitalized earlier in the day.

Lisa Marie had reportedly been in an induced coma, and doctors had put her on life support with a temporary pacemaker.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson said that paramedics were dispatched to Lisa Marie’s home in Los Angeles at around 10:37 AM on Thursday, January 12 after a report of a woman in cardiac arrest.

Paramedics arrived at the home, and according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office, they performed CPR and then transported the patient to West Hills Hospital.

The tragedy happened barely two days after Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley attended the Golden Globes to watch actor Austin Butler accept the award for Best Male Actor in a Drama for portraying her father in Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis.”

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight during a red-carpet interview, Lisa Marie called his performance in the movie “mind-blowing.”

However, the 54-year-old looked unsteady at certain times during her red-carpet interviews. A video shared on TikTok showed her walking with Austin Butler while stumbling and shuffling at times and seemingly needing support. People commenting on the video expressed their worry, with some asking if she was okay.

After Lisa was rushed to the hospital on Thursday morning, Priscilla confirmed her condition, saying that her daughter was in the hospital, receiving the best care in the world.

According to a news outlet, a housekeeper found her unresponsive in her bedroom on Thursday morning. Lisa Marie’s ex-husband, Danny Keough, who lived with her, performed CPR until help arrived.

Lisa Marie was born in 1968, nine months after her parents wed. She was briefly raised in Memphis, Tennessee, before moving to LA with Priscilla after her parent’s divorce in 1973.

Elvis died in August 1977 when Lisa Marie was just nine-years-old. He made Lisa Marie, her grandfather, and great-grandmother the joint heirs to his estate, but after they died in 1979 and 1980, Lisa Marie became the sole heir. She inherited Elvis Presley’s $100 million estate when she turned 25 in 1993. She sold over 80% of it in 2004.

While doing an interview with Good Morning America in 2009, Lisa Marie recalled her time with her father, saying he would wake her up in the middle of the night to sing on top of the table.

She was married four times, to Michael Jackson, Nicolas Cage, Danny Keough, and Michael Lockwood, and she has four children. Her son, with ex-husband Danny Keough, Benjamin Keough, committed suicide in July 2020. Lisa Marie and Keough also have a daughter, 33-year-old Riley Keough. She shared two 14-year-old twin daughters with ex-husband Michael Lockwood, Finley Aaron Love and Harper Vivienne Ann.
