A shooter stood over a teenage mother and her 10-month-old baby as they tried to escape a brutal attack in a home in Central California, and shot them both in the head, police said.
Tulare County officials released new details about the shooting in Goshen, California, that happened on Monday, January 16, that left six people dead, including a 72-year-old grandmother who was shot while she was sleeping.
Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said that the 16-year-old was fleeing the attack with her baby when the killers caught up to her in the street outside the home and shot both the mother and baby “assassination style.”
Boudreaux expressed his shock that that type of violence exists in the community. He identified the victims, who were part of the same family, as Rosa Parraz, 72; Marco Parraz, 19; Eladio Parraz Jr., 52; Alissa Parraz, 16, Nycholas Parraz, 10 months and Jennifer Analla, 50.
Authorities are looking for two suspects and announced a reward of $10,000 to anyone who comes forward with information leading to their arrests.
Officers got a call about heavy gunfire in the Harvard Road neighborhood at around 3:30 am on Monday, January 16. Responding officers found two victims on the street and a third in the house’s doorway. They found two more victims in the home and one who was still alive. They rushed him to the hospital, but he died shortly after arrival.
The two victims found down the street were the mother and baby.
It was later established that a survivor who hid inside the house had called 911. Three people survived the attack.
Boudreaux said that even though they had earlier believed the attack was linked to a cartel, authorities were not ruling out gang violence.
The sheriff said that how the attack was conducted and the fact that the shooters knew where to shoot the victims for a quicker death showed similarities to gang violence.
Police had executed a search warrant on the home about a week before the shootings. They recovered marijuana, methamphetamine, guns, and money. They arrested 52-year-old Eladio Parraz, a convicted felon and one of the dead victims, but he got bailed out a few days later.
According to Boudreaux, even though the home had gang and drug activity history, not everyone there was a gang member or drug user – a reference to the 16-year-old and her innocent baby.
