Prince Harry has been promoting his new book, “Spare,” which is making headlines and sales across the world.
In the new book, and in interviews with television media, Prince Harry has accused Queen Consort Camilla of leaking royal stories and private conversations to the British media with the intent of improving her reputation. The prince made the allegations during several interviews to promote his new book, which is a memoir full of intrigue that brings readers behind the palace walls.
In interviews aired on January 8 and 9, Prince Harry accused several royal family members of colluding with the British tabloids to gain favorable media coverage for themselves, at the expense of others. He singled out his stepmother Camilla, saying she had hoped to repair her image with the British people after her affair with Harry’s father, King Charles III, which made his mother, Princess Diana, miserable in their marriage.
During his interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, Prince Harry said that Camilla’s cooperation with the British media made her dangerous and that both she and the press were willing to trade information harmful to himself and others.
Harry did interviews with ITV and 60 Minutes on CBS on Sunday, January 8, and then did another interview with Good Morning America on Monday, January 9. His book was released on Tuesday, January 10. It is said to be the quickest selling book in history in the UK.Â
Some of the bookshops in the UK increased their hours, opening early in order to sell the highly anticipated book, which has been in the headlines since its announcement.
In the interviews last week, and in their Netflix documentary “Harry and Meghan,” which aired in December, Harry blamed the British media for uncomfortable events while he and Meghan were still living in the UK. He also said that the media contributed to the problems between him and his brother, Prince William.
On Good Morning America, Harry said that the tabloids pitched him and his brother against each other and they did the same with Meghan and Kate Middleton, causing rifts in the family.Â
Harry spoke about his lawsuit against several tabloids, but also held the royal family itself responsible for many of the controversies.
He spoke about the 2021 Oprah interview in which the couple revealed that someone in the royal family had raised their concerns about how their infant, Andrew, would look when he was born, since the child is biracial. Although he said the royal family was not racist, he accused them of being “unconsciously biased.”
In “Spare,” Harry writes about his grief after his mother’s death and his resentment about his role as a “spare” heir. He also writes about a physical fight with his brother William and talks about how he lost his virginity and used cocaine and marijuana.Â
Media has been jokingly referring to the multiple times Harry mentioned his private parts in his memoirs.Â
Harry said he killed 25 Taliban fighters, during his time in the military in Afghanistan, a claim that earned him criticism from British military veterans and the Taliban.
“Spare” discusses the sensitive topic of Camilla being the third person in Princess Diana and King Charles’ marriage, which everyone knew about at the time and caused significant stress for Diana. Harry said that during Camilla’s wedding to his father, he had complex feelings about the marriage and tried to talk his father out of it.Â
