Last year, a 17-year-old Los Angeles teen hit a woman and her baby in a stroller, with his vehicle in Venice, California.
After the accident, in which the woman and her baby were lucky enough to survive without serious injury, the teen was punished with only a few months in a diversionary camp.
The teen, Kristopher Baca, 17, a Palmdale resident, who only got a slap on the wrist, was found by deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shot dead on Wednesday, January 18, in a driveway on 11th Street East.
Police say there does not appear to be a connection between the teen’s death and the prior hit-and-run incident, and police haven’t released information about a suspect in his death.
Just before he was killed, Baca was at a fast-food restaurant talking to a girl. While walking home, a car pulled up next to him, and someone in the car started to argue with the teen. Shots were fired, and the boy was struck and killed. The car sped off.
The hit-and-run case last year received nationwide attention after a video of the accident went viral on the internet.
The video shows a car driving straight into a woman pushing her baby in a stroller. The accident’s impact sends the mother and child flying into the air. The mother pushed herself against a wall as the car approached and was then hit by the car and she fell onto the car hood.
She was not seriously injured, and the video shows her jumping back to her feet and rushing to check on her infant.
Witnesses chased Baca’s car. Police found marijuana in the car and said the teen was driving under the influence of drugs. Because he was a minor, police released him to his parents.
The mom in the video, only identified as “Rachel,” was sad to hear about Baca’s murder. She said that his “punishment” was much more severe than he would have received in a court of law.
