An 18-year-old young man met a 14-year-old girl online and arranged a date. He knew what he wanted and became violent when he couldn’t get his way.

Julian Antonio Pinedo was arrested and charged with the assault and stabbing of a 14-year-old Springfield girl, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Pinedo appeared in court on Friday, January 27. A judge ordered him held on a $2 million bond. His next court appearance is on February 7. He was charged with attempted murder and faces life in prison if convicted.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard announced that the teen girl is recovering from her wounds and is stable.

Police said they were notified by a caller at a home in North Bay, Springfield Township, at about 12:10 am on Wednesday, January 25, saying that a teen girl had been stabbed several times.

Responding officers found the girl bleeding with multiple stab wounds. The girl and her younger sibling were the only people at home during the incident. The girl’s parents were out, and the girl’s sister was asleep in another room and wasn’t harmed.

The girls called their parents after she was attacked.  The parents rushed back to the house after calling the police.

The girl told investigators that she met the teen online, and they planned a date. Pinedo traveled several miles from Monmouth, Illinois, to Springfield, Illinois to meet her.

When he arrived at the girl’s home, she refused to become intimate with him, which caused him to become violent and he initiated the near deadly attack on her.

By the time police arrived, Pinedo had already fled. An officer from the Waterford Township Police Department found him and took him into custody without incident. He was turned over to the Sheriff’s Department.

On Friday, Sheriff Bouchard reminded people that online dating can be dangerous. He advised people that it was safer to meet with online strangers in a public setting and not to share information like addresses or information that can lead someone to track a location.
