Three 18-year-olds were arrested in connection with the brutal shooting death of a 15-year-old girl in her bedroom at her home in Georgia, according to authorities.
Jacobean Brown, Justus Smith, and Yeshua Mathis, all residents of Fayetteville, were identified as the three assailants by the Peachtree City Police Department.
Police have accused them with the murder of Madison Gesswein, 15 years old.
Gesswein’s relatives reported to authorities that Jacobean Brown’s father was shot and killed in a bank parking lot on February 10 in South Fulton, Georgia. It is unknown whether the murders are linked.
The Whitewater High School student was discovered dead in her bed by her mother at 6 a.m. on February 21 in their apartment.
The police department stated that they are still awaiting her autopsy report, which will identify her cause of death, but responding officers discovered her with a head injury consistent with a gunshot wound.
Gesswein’s mother contacted 911 immediately after discovering her daughter in bed, bleeding heavily from the head. She attempted to do emergency CPR on her daughter in accordance with the dispatcher’s instructions.
She also notified the dispatcher that the windows in her daughter’s bedroom were open and that the blinds had been tampered with.
Although the authorities have not yet determined the motivation for the heinous murder, they have said that the suspects and the victim knew each other.
During a news conference on Wednesday, Assistant Chief of Peachtree Police Matt Myers said that the murder was not random, adding that the suspects knew whose house they were in and that the crime had to be tied to something between the parties.
Although it is unclear how the suspects gained access to the residence, the window from the girl’s bedroom was removed for forensic processing.
Jada Zimbabwe, Gesswein’s friend, expressed her shock at her friend’s death. Gesswein, according to Zimbabwe, did nothing to provoke her murder.
Officers from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office apprehended one suspect after he ran from his home and discovered another at the same address. The third suspect was apprehended the following day in Fayetteville by officers.
The three accused are being incarcerated in the Fayette County Jail. As the investigation progresses, they may face more charges.
