What was supposed to end as a nice normal day for a family of four living in Las Vegas turned tragic after two young boys got struck by a bullet, causing one of them to die.
The two boys, aged nine and six, were watching the popular cartoon “SpongeBob SquarePants” when tragedy struck.
Nine-year-old SirArmani Clark (a/k/a Armani) was seated on the couch with his younger brother, six-year-old Honor Tate, on Friday, March 10, when a bullet crashed through the apartment’s wall, striking the boy and killing him.
Speaking to reporters, their mother, Justine Tate, said that if she could take that bullet from her son, she would have done so in a heartbeat, adding that she would prefer the boys lived without a mom than lose their lives.
The deadly bullet reportedly hit Armani first in his head before hitting Honor’s leg.
The parents ran into the living room after hearing the gunshot from another room.
Tate recalled the moments leading up to the discovery of her son lying in a pool of blood. She said they ran into the living room. They heard the younger boy whimper, but no sound came from Armani.
The mother said they found the nine-year-old unresponsive. She recalled seeing his head drop and fall to the side.
Tate and her husband, Marieal Collins, took the boys to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where Armani was declared dead. Honor is still recovering from his injuries.
The couple had only moved to Las Vegas from Reno with the boys for Tate’s work about a week before the tragic shooting.
Tate said it has been tough for Honor, who keeps asking for his older brother and does not want to leave the house.
A GoFundMe for the boy’s funeral expenses has already raised over $18,900.
The bullet was fired by a neighbor showing off a new gun. The neighbor fired the gun, and the bullet went straight into the apartment, hitting the two boys.
Authorities arrested the unidentified neighbor and confirmed that he was a convicted felon.
It is still unclear the charges the man will face.
