Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke sustained minor injuries after losing control of his vehicle and crashing it into a gate in Malibu, California.
The 97-year-old actor reportedly skidded on the wet road before losing control behind the wheel and smashing into the gate on Wednesday, March 15.
According to a report, the nasty car accident left the elderly actor with a bloody nose and mouth. It is also possible that he may have suffered a concussion.
Responding officers from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene to find the actor behind the wheel of his LS 500 Lexus.
Officers from the Los Angeles Fire Department treated Van Dyke for his injuries at the scene. However, the 97-year-old man did not go to the hospital with paramedics and was reportedly picked up by a friend who drove him home.
Police officers submitted their report to the Department of Motor Vehicles and requested that the star retake his driving tests.
According to the outlet, police said there was no indication of drugs and alcohol having caused the crash.
This year’s crash comes nearly a decade after the actor was involved in another more serious accident that ended with him being rescued from his burning car in Los Angeles.
Van Dyke had not realized that his car had caught fire until he was pulled out by first responders. He told reporters at the time that the car started making noises, which he initially thought were from a flat tire before it started to smoke and burn.
Van Dyke said he felt very lucky to have survived that accident uninjured, adding that a fireman, a nurse, and a police officer happened to be in the area at just the right time.
The rescuer, Jason Pennington, said he had seen the smoking Jaguar by the side of the road with an elderly man hunched over the wheel and had pulled over to extract the driver from the vehicle.
The Emmy award winner made headlines earlier this year when he secretly sang a Frank Sinatra song during an appearance on “The Masked Singer.”
Van Dyke left judges Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, and Jenny McCarthy speechless after the big reveal that it was him.
Scherzinger even shed tears after realizing that Dick Van Dyke was the masked singer. She told the actor that she and the whole world loved him.
Dick Van Dyke is popular for the 60’s TV show, “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” the film Bye Bye Birdie in 1963, the movies Mary Poppins in 1964, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 1968.
